M. Phil English Literature

Introduction

Phil in English Literature is launched after completion of all formalities of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. This program has started with intention to strengthen research culture in Pakistan and equip students with advanced concepts and specialist knowledge in the field of literature. As English achieved the status of global language and it is necessary to have command of English in the economic and technological developments. English has been used as medium of instruction in the leading educational institutions.

This program discovers the languages cultures first hand and become a truly global citizen. Studies in English language and Literature at INU will prepare students for a range of careers across the globe such as interpreting and translation, teaching, journalism, business or international relations. As a matter of fact, there is lack of expert knowledge in language and literature, especially with reference to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the M. Phil English Literature was primarily aimed at removing this and such like deficiencies.

To strive for the achievement of academic excellence in the fields of Literature and Linguistics based on international standards, promote critical thinking, research and fostering culture understanding with a sense of market dynamism and corporate social responsibility.

To develop academically, improve cross cultural understanding through international collaboration that encourage problem solving abilities across disciplines by highlighting academic excellence, to produce analytical thinkers for the variety of careers.

Scope of M. Phil English Literature

Graduates of the program not only upgrade their qualification but also develop skills in teaching, research and critical thinking that in turn create opportunities in finding jobs with intermediate to advanced level positions in teaching, media, multinational corporations and civil bureaucracy etc. MPhil English Literature program has been designed to develop outstanding scholars who make an impact in their chosen fields. The program also helps in positive social transformation like democracy, modernization and globalization. 

The graduates will also know the culture of other countries through English language and Literature as English is now an International language, so to know about the language and to know the language is the main scope of the program. The program places particular emphasis on the scholarly development of students through a combination of thorough formal course work, seminars, research, and independent analysis.

Objectives of M. Phil English Literature

To create a sense of critical analysis and train the individual to develop arguments based on facts for decision making purpose.

  • To equip the enrolled with latest research knowledge for leading position in any walk of life.
  • To enhance understanding of various culture by keeping in mind the cross culture disputes.
  • To obtain a higher position in the various institutions of Higher Education of Pakistan.
  • To create ability and confidence of separate literary research by following the already established norms of research.
  • To explore literature of the world and understand for comparative analysis.
  • To highlight the difference between/among various cultures of the world.

Eligibility and Enrolment Criteria

The eligibility and enrolment criteria for M. Phil in English Literature is to be followed as recommended by HEC.

Sixteen years of schooling or 4 year education (124 credit hours) after HSSC/F.A./F.Sc/Grade 12 shall be required for admission in the MPhil English Literature.

A minimum of 2nd division in annual system of examination or 2.50 CGPA in semester system examination in the terminal degree as per the HEC criteria

Admission Test for M. Phil English Literature

The departmental test equivalent to GRE/GAT/HAT General with the passing score of 60% as per HEC guidelines.
